Anti wear ceramic

The extreme hardness of ceramics makes them very suitable for high wear applications. The hardness of the material varies from 1300 Hv for zirconia to 3000 Hv for boron carbide. Aluminium oxide is, however, the most frequently used material for wear applications. The pricing of the material/parts is generally competitive and it is relatively easy to form the material in the right dimensions. Aluminium oxide tiles are often used to protect installations that handle abrasive materials.

Pumping manufacturers also frequently use ceramics for turning parts to extend the lifetime of their equipment. Aluminium oxide and silicon carbide are used for bearings and mechanical seals. These parts can be machined to a very tight tolerance. This enables designers to work with limited clearance between two moving parts. Low friction and wear contribute to the overall performance of the pumps.
